Natural holiday park in Friesland

De Kas is located in Scherpenzeel, a village in the southeast of Friesland, on the border of meadow and marsh. Not a big park with barriers and entertainment, but a few accommodations among the reeds, with nature as your neighbour. In the morning you hear the godwit, in the evening the sky above the Rottige Meente turns colourful.

What you'll find here above all is space. Space to not have to do anything. The car stays parked, the phone can stay in the drawer, and the biggest decision of the day is whether to go boating or walking.

Special overnight stays in Friesland

Five Wetland Cabins on the edge of the Weerribben. No crowds, just the reeds, the water and the storks.

For us, special overnight stays in Friesland mean: a small cabin in the reedland, a hot tub under the open sky, and above all, quiet. Boetiekpark de Kas is located in Scherpenzeel, on the edge of National Park Weerribben-Wieden. No barriers, no entertainment, no rows of cottages. Five Wetland Cabins, a couple of Tiny Greenhouses, and nature that begins right at your door.

In the morning you hear the bittern, in the evening the sky above the water turns colourful. Whoever sleeps here does so to get away from the crowds, not to be in the middle of them.

A day at De Kas

  • Canoeing through the Weerribben, with a free canoe from the park
  • Walking and cycling along the peat dikes and through the reeds
  • Birdwatching: the bittern in the reeds, the storks on the nest
  • In the evening into the hot tub, under a sky that still gets truly dark here

Friesland, but the quiet side

The Weerribben begins practically right behind your cabin: a reedland of peat pits, narrow waterways and open water, once dug to cut peat. You can hop straight into the canoe, free from the park. Walking and cycling routes lead straight from your door into the nature reserve.

If you'd still like to see a village, Blokzijl, Steenwijk and Giethoorn are a short drive away. But most guests come for the opposite: a few days where little needs to happen.

Special overnight stays at De Kas?

For us, special overnight stays are no gimmick. It's what's left when you strip away the crowds: the reeds, the water, a hot tub, and time. Our guests love to come in autumn and winter, precisely when it's quiet. Mist over the canal in October, short dark days, a crackling fire. That's when De Kas is at its most beautiful.

As a couple, choose the Wetland Cabin. If you're bringing a dog or children, the Tiny Greenhouse suits better: two to four people, sleeping in the mezzanine with a view of the stars, dogs welcome (max. 2). For a group or a wedding there's the Landerij, a 1930s inn for twenty people. And for those who make camping itself part of the holiday, behind the Landerij there's a small nature campsite among the fruit trees.
